Our Vintage Restoration Process
Every vintage watch restoration at SwissMade follows a meticulous 18-step process developed over four decades. Our master watchmakers begin by carefully removing the movement from the case, then separating the dial and hands to inspect for damage or deterioration. The movement is fully disassembled, with each mechanical component examined for wear under magnification.
All parts are cleaned in our ultrasonic machines before worn components are replaced with period-correct or manufacturer-approved parts where available. The movement is then reassembled, lubricated with precision oils, and the balance wheel and hairspring are carefully regulated. We check accuracy on our electronic timing machines to ensure optimal performance.
The case and bracelet receive ultrasonic cleaning, with optional sympathetic refinishing that preserves the watch's original character and patina. New crystals are fitted when required, seals are replaced, and water-resistant models undergo vacuum testing. Following reassembly, automatic watches spend 24 hours on our electronic winding machines before a final 48-hour inspection confirms everything meets our exacting standards.
